The best Russian artillerymen need only a minute to hit the target with a howitzer. This is enough time to set a howitzer, calculate the trajectory and command “Fire.” Commanders of artillery batteries in ground and airborne troops, marine infantry and at the Mikhailovsky Military Artillery Academy and interior troops of Russia demonstrated their skills in a competition. The officers’ task was to determine the target’s coordinates as precisely as possible and to engage the token enemy with the first shot. The participants at the annual summer competitions on firing range No. 33 outside Luga in Leningrad Region also competed in tactical skills and physical fitness.
