The Himachal government will extend all possible help for setting up the International Roerich Art Academy at Naggar near Manali to realise the dream of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
This was stated by Chief Minister PK Dhumal while addressing a gathering on the occasion of the birth anniversary of renowned Russian painter Nicholas Roerich. He also took part in the celebrations at Naggar, near Manali. Dhumal is the president of the International Research Memorial Trust at Naggar.
Dhumal said during the prime ministership of Vajpayee, a sum of Rs 1 crore was donated to the trust for setting up of research art academy. He assured that the government would extend all help to the Russian embassy and the trust to give a boost to cultural activities at Naggar.
Dhumal said paintings and ideology of Roerich should not be bound by geographical boundaries. “The trust has emerged as the symbol of friendship between Russia and India and there is a need to strengthen it further,” he said.
Alexander M Kadakin, Ambassador of Russia and vice-president of the trust, thanked the state for its support.
