India and Russia are in vanguard of struggle against international terrorism

NEW DELHI, December 8 /TASS/. India and Russia are on the one side of the barricades. They are also in the vanguard of fighting international terrorism, Russian Vice-Premier Dmitry Rogozin told TASS after a visit to New Delhi on Tuesday.

"Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Moscow late in December to attend a (bilateral Russian-Indian) summit. The visit will have a deep meaning. It is extremely important for discussing joint actions and the creation of a broad counter-terrorism coalition and also for exerting joint efforts in conditions when the two countries have not only found themselves on the one side of the barricades but are in the vanguard of this struggle (against terrorism)," the Russian vice-premier said.

According to him, the appearance of the Islamic State (IS) metastases in the territory of Afghanistan has aggravated the situation even further. "The Taliban used to be perceived as an exclusively domestic phenomenon for Afghanistan. ISIS (or IS) is something absolutely the opposite. They are as radical or even more radical (than the Taliban), and they also have global ambitions," Rogozin stressed.

"It is absolutely clear that the situation is changing," the Russian vice-premier said adding that all progressive forces should mobilize their efforts to fight terrorism.

India fully supports Russia’s efforts to fight terrorism, Russian Vice-Premier Dmitry Rogozin told TASS the one-day working visit to New Delhi devoted to preparations for a bilateral summit due to take place in Moscow late in December.

"The Indian prime minister is going to visit Moscow at a very important and troublesome period of time. It is not surprising that everything we discussed in New Delhi today largely concerned struggle against terrorism and radical forms of Islam," Rogozin said. He added that the Indian side fully supported Russia’s (anti-terror) efforts, including those directed at fighting the most radical manifestations of religious terrorism - the Islamic State (IS).

"India has enormous, and even dramatic, experience in waging this struggle.

"The Indian side presented its condolences over a terror attack against our passenger plane, which was en route from Egypt, and another terror attack against our bomber, which was performing a legitimate combat task in Syria’s airspace practically at all meetings that we had had, including a meeting with the government of (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi," the Russian vice-premier stressed.
