Modernised Indian submarine to leave for home port on January 29

Indian Navy’s INS Sindhurakshakdiesel-electric submarine will leave for home port on January 29 on completion of its modernisation in Russia, ITAR-TASS reports.

The Kilo class submarine was retrofitted in ‘Zvyozdochka’ shipyard in Severodvinsk, north-west Russia. In the course of refit it was armed with modern Club-S cruise missiles, Porpoise radar and its cooling system was modernised.

Ship repair centre “Zvyozdochka” shipyard, specialising in repairs and cutting of nuclear submarines, has modernised four Indian naval submarines since 1997. INS Sindhurakshakwas built in 1997 at Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg.
