Press release on Foreign Ministry’s Collegium meeting

On November 27, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov chaired a meeting of the Foreign Ministry’s Collegium on the state of and prospects for expanding strategic partnership with the Republic of India.

Those at the meeting noted the highly intensive Russia-India political dialogue at every level, close cooperation on a number of international matters, including the Afghan peace settlement, the conflict in Syria, the situation in the Middle East and North Africa as a whole, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, as well as the construction of an all-inclusive and open security system in the Asia Pacific Region. They said it was appropriate to expand mutual coordination with New Delhi at such leading multilateral venues as the UN, G20, the SCO, BRICS as well as the EAS.

They pointed out the need for consistent efforts to drastically raise the level of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, including through the implementation of large-scale joint projects.

Collegium members approved a range of measures aiming to implement the Russian Federation’s key foreign policy directives regarding India.

The results of the discussions are reflected in a resolution passed after the meeting.
