Ride the Moscow Metro with your cell phone

Soon Muscovites will be able to enter the Moscow Metro using their cell phones. Moscow Metro officials announced the introduction of a new payment technology scheduled to take effect by the end of this year.

"Soon you will only need to have an NFC-based SIM-card with a transceiver circuit. You can still use your old cell phone though," according to Vladimir Zhuchkov, head of revenue collection at the Moscow Metro.

The procedure is simple. Just take your new SIM-card equipped cell phone to a metro ticket-office and they will add the number of rides you want. Or you can use a special menu in the cell phone itself.
