Vladimir Putin receives a toy excavator, speaks Japanese

Tuesday, 22 June 2010 15:15
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was given a scaled-down model of an excavator as he visited the Yaroslavl plant of the Japanese company Komatsu.

He told company representatives that his government is giving constant thought to ways to reduce import duties on component parts for building equipment. The current duty on finished tracked vehicles is 5%, and more on their parts. This makes assembly production unprofitable.

Komatsu is the world leader in the manufacture of building machinery and quarry equipment. The plant in Yaroslavl is its first project of its kind in Russia.
