Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova on Ukraine’s decision to include the Rossiya Segodnya news agency and RIA News Ukraine into its sanctions list

Thursday, 24 May 2018 10:23

We are outraged by the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to include the Rossiya Segodnya news agency and RIA News Ukraine into its updated sanctions list for three years and block access to their websites.

The Ukrainian President’s executive order blocks the assets of these agencies, restricts or cancels their access to telecommunications services and open telecommunications networks and instructs internet providers to block access to their websites. They are also ordered to restrict access to the following websites: Rossiyasegodnya.rf, Sputniknews.com, Ria.ru, Rsport.ria.ru, 1prime.ru, Realty.ria.ru and rian.com.ua.

We qualify this step as yet another action of political censorship designed to further purge the country’s information space and a forceful attempt by the Kiev regime to deprive the population of an opportunity to receive unbiased information about events in Ukraine.

We insist on an immediate and tough response of the relevant international organisations, primarily the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, to Kiev’s continued outrageous high-handedness towards Russian media outlets.
