Press release on Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov’s participation in 13th Asia–Europe Ministerial Meeting (ASEM)

On November 20-21, Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov took part in the 13th Asia–Europe Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (ASEM FMM13), which took place in Nay Pyi Taw under the slogan Strengthening Partnership for Peace and Sustainable Development.

The participants exchanged views on key items on the international and regional agendas, including sustainable development, counter-terrorism and rational management of natural resources. Attention was given to development issues of connectivity between Asia and Europe in all its aspects. They also stressed the importance of making an effective use of the potential of the ASEM Pathfinder Group on Connectivity.

Russia emphasised the need to work towards a just world order based on the standards and principles of international law, as well as equal and indivisible security. In light of ASEM goals, the participants also stressed the importance of expanding the unifying agenda and enhancing the practical elements of the forum’s work to promote mutual understanding between the European and Asian states, as well as trade and economic cooperation, cultural ties and humanitarian exchanges. It was proposed that the member countries join the implementation of Russia’s initiative to integrate remote territories as an important factor in sustainable development. Seeking to boost the evolution of transregional integration projects and cross-format cooperation, the participants highlighted the possibility of establishing the Greater Eurasian Partnership with the EAEU, the SCO and ASEAN that will be open to all other states and multilateral organisations.
