Comment by the Information and Press Department on the multilateral Kabul Process meeting

Thursday, 08 June 2017 19:23

On June 6, Kabul hosted a multilateral meeting of the Kabul Process for national reconciliation and security in Afghanistan. The meeting was attended by special envoys and senior officials from 27 countries, including Russia, and also delegates from several international organisations.

Following the meeting, the Afghan authorities published a statement by the meeting chair, who expressed appreciation for the support provided by Afghanistan’s international and regional partners to the Kabul Process, urged the armed opposition groups to end the violence and start peace talks with the Afghan government and confirmed the authorities’ commitment to combating terrorism.

Russia will continue to contribute to international efforts to restore security and promote national reconciliation in Afghanistan, including as part of the Moscow format of consultations on Afghanistan, which we regard as the  optimal mechanism for interaction between regional and other concerned states in the interests of achieving the above goals.
