Press release on the meeting of the Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action

Friday, 25 May 2018 13:11

On May 25, the Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear programme held a special session in Vienna without the United States. The participants expressed their shared deep disappointment in Washington’s unilateral and groundless decision to withdraw from the JCPOA. The Russian delegation also noted that this step was a serious violation of the comprehensive agreements on Iran’s nuclear programme as well as UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) and, in fact, deprives the US of all rights under the JCPOA. The consequences of the US decision for the further comprehensive implementation of all aspects of the JCPOA was discussed in detail.

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano spoke at the opening of the meeting. He reaffirmed that Iran is in full compliance with its JCPOA obligations. The members of the Joint Commission praised the agency for its professional, objective and impartial inspections in Iran.

The Commission reaffirmed the critical importance of preserving the JCPOA for maintaining international and regional security. Therefore, the commission plans to step up joint efforts to develop protective mechanisms against the potential impact of restored US extraterritorial sanctions against Iran in order to support normal international trade and economic cooperation with Iran.

The Russian delegation reaffirmed full commitment to implementing its JCPOA obligations, including assisting Iran in organising the production of stable isotopes at the Fordo facility.

Iran proposed holding the next Commission meeting at the foreign ministers’ level.
