Press release on a Foreign Ministry Collegium meeting

Tuesday, 17 April 2018 17:14

On April 17, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov chaired a meeting of the Foreign Ministry Collegium on preparations for a future meeting of Russian ambassadors and permanent representatives, which will be held in Moscow in the summer.

The Collegium members pointed out that in the context of increasing confrontation and serious imbalance brought about by the actions of the United States and its allies, the responsibility of Russian diplomacy is to protect Russia’s national interests, including the interests of its citizens and companies, on the basis of international law and the principles of justice and equitable cooperation based on mutual respect.

The upcoming meeting of Russian ambassadors and permanent representatives will be used to analyse Russia’s priorities in all the main areas of the Ministry’s activities and to coordinate practical measures towards implementing Russia’s foreign policy, as approved by President Vladimir Putin. The Collegium members also agreed on several preparatory measures for the meeting and issued appropriate instructions to Ministry departments and foreign office missions abroad.

They also discussed the Ministry’s performance in 2017 and its goals for the medium term, including as part of the implementation of the state programme on Foreign Policy, which is the Foreign Ministry’s responsibility.
