Briefing by Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria (May 18, 2018)

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides continues working on peaceful settlement of the conflict and stabilizing humanitarian situation in the Syrian Arab Republic.

The Russian-Iranian-Turkish Joint Coordination Centre has registered some cases of ceasefire violation by illegal armed formations in the provinces of Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia, Damasucs and Daraa.

On May 17, militants carried out a mortar attack from the Khadjar-al-Aswad quarter against the al-Zahira and al-Salhiya districts in the city of Damascus. Five civilians have been injured.

The Russian side jointly with the Syrian government is taking measures to stabilize situation in Damascus province.

Six houses were cleared up in the settlement of Rukheiba. Two improvised explosive devices were found and defused.

Living houses are being cleared up from mines and ammo in the city of Douma. Streets are being cleared from rubbles by special equipment; housing and utilities infrastructure is being restored. Over the last 24 hours, 19 houses and their territories have been cleared up. In total, 13 explosive devices have been defused.

In total, since the government regained control over the Eastern Ghouta, 23 square km have been cleared up.

The head of the Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides held a working meeting with the UN representatives on safe and unimpeded passage of humanitarian convoys to the Eastern Ghouta.

Due to comprehensive support 65,689 citizens of the Eastern Ghouta have returned to their homes from camps for refugees and temporary displaced persons.

Measures are being taken to stabilize situation in southern suburbs of Damascus.

Law enforcement bodies of the Syrian Arab Republic and units of the Russian military police are cooperating to prevent provocations and ensure the safety of civilians in the settlements of al-Rastan and Talbiseh.

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation is above all focused on stabilizing the humanitarian situation, providing medical assistance to the people in need and meeting the priority needs of citizens.

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation held a humanitarian action in the Bayda district in the city of Aleppo. People received more than a ton of fresh-baked bread.

Russian military medics provided medical assistance to 22 Syrians, including 14 children.

The reconstruction of the destroyed social infrastructure and the establishment of peaceful life in the Syrian provinces enable people to return back to their former homes.

Over the past day, 202 people have returned to Homs province, and 127 – to the Eastern Ghouta.

The Russian Centre is registering the number of citizens leaving Tell Rifaat de-escalation zone for Membij, Aleppo province. Over the last 24 hours, 334 people with personal properties have left the area.
