Briefing by Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria (April 18, 2018)

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides continues working on peaceful settlement of the conflict and stabilizing humanitarian situation in the Syrian Arab Republic.

Despite the ceasefire regime being established throughout the country, the Russian-Turkish-Iranian Coordination Centre has registered several cases of ceasefire violation in the provinces of Idlib, Latakia, Homs, and Daraa over the last 24 hours.

Situation in the Eastern Ghouta is stabilizing. Peaceful life is being recovered.

Civilians continue returning to peaceful life in Douma, which had been liberated from insurgents.

Units of the Russian MP in close cooperation with Syrian police are observing ceasefire implementation, provide security, and organize assistance to civilians.

Living houses and infrastructure objects are being cleared from mines and explosive devices. Over the last 24 hours, six houses and their territories have been cleared. Eight explosive devices have been defused.

Repair brigades have recovered water and electricity supply systems in the territory of 19,000 square kilometers. Medical infrastructure is being recovered.

Due to efforts taken by the Russian Reconciliation Centre and the Syrian government, 60,352 citizens of the Eastern Ghouta have returned to their homes from camps for refugees and temporary displaced persons.

Work held by the Russian Centre is aimed at de-escalation of situation in Damascus province.

Due to reached agreements, representatives of illegal armed formations handed four pick-ups with large-caliber machine guns, a pick-up with an air defence system, seven machine guns, a mortar as well as radio and satellite communication stations to the Syrian Arab Army.

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation is above all focused on stabilizing the humanitarian situation, providing medical assistance to the people in need and meeting the priority needs of citizens.

Representatives of the Russian Reconciliation Centre took part in session of the National Reconciliation Committee in the administration of the al-Quneitra province Governor. A ceasefire regime agreement has been singed with the settlement of Sweisa.

Russian military medics have provided medical assistance to 70 Syrians, including 20 children.

The reconstruction of the destroyed social infrastructure and the establishment of peaceful life in the Syrian provinces enable people to return back to their former homes.

Over the past day, 210 people have returned to Homs province, 520 people – to the province of Deir ez-Zor (on the eastern shore of the Euphrates), and 347 – to the Eastern Ghouta.

The Russian Centre is registering the number of citizens leaving Tell Rifaat de-escalation zone for Membij, Aleppo province. Over the last 24 hours, 119 people have left the area.
