Briefing by Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria (August 2, 2018)

Thursday, 02 August 2018 10:52

Peaceful settlement of the conflict and rendering of comprehensive assistance are the main vectors of work in the Syrian Arab Republic.

There are favourable conditions in most areas of the Syrian Arab Republic that enable IDPs to return back to their homes.

Due to taken measures, 74,130 people have returned back to the Eastern Ghouta from refugee and IDPs camps. Over the past day, 102 people have returned back to their former places of residence.

Military medics have provided medical assistance to 14 people, including seven children over the past day.

Despite the ceasefire regime being established throughout the country, there are still cases of ceasefire regime violation by illegal armed formations in the Idlib de-escalation zone. Over the past 24 hours, insurgents attacked Arafit (two times), Safafa (two times), Latakia province, Sheikh-Baraqa, Hama province, and the Hamdaniyah and Maqanis al-Duwayri districts of Aleppo city.

As a result of the attack, two Syrian servicemen were killed and four civilians were wounded.

It was reported about concentration of Hayyat Tahrir al-Sham militants (Jabhat al-Nusra) and other groups in north Latakia and Hama provinces, and southwest districts of Aleppo city.

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides urges leaders of illegal armed formations operating  in the Idlib de-escalation zone to cease hostilities and move towards peaceful settlement of the situation in areas they occupy.
