Briefing by Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria (August 1, 2018)

Reconciliation of opposing sides and stabilization of humanitarian situation are the main vectors in political settlement of the crisis in the Syrian Arab Republic.

There are favourable conditions in most areas of the Syrian Arab Republic that enable IDPs to return back to their homes.

Due to taken measures, 74,028 people have returned back to the Eastern Ghouta from refugee and IDPs camps. Over the past day, 111 people have returned back to their former places of residence.

Military medics have provided medical assistance to more than 100 people, including 44 children over the past day.

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides held two humanitarian actions: in Al-Muntar, Aleppo province, and Al-Ghantu, Homs province. People received over 1,300 food sets with a total weight of 5.6 tons.

The total number of humanitarian actions - 1,879 with total weight of cargo - 2,861.36 tons.

As a result of negotiations with the elders of the settlements and leaders of illegal armed groups, in Southwest de-escalation with the assistance of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides, insurgents surrendered a 30mm gun, a pickup with large-calibre machine gun,and over 25 pieces of small arms, as well as a large quantity of ammunition of various types and calibers over the past day.

Despite the ceasefire regime being established throughout the country, there are still cases of ceasefire regime violation by illegal armed formations in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

Insurgents attacked the following towns over the past day: Ayn al-Hanzir, Latakia province, Safafa, Hama province, and Khan al-Asal and Rashidin districts, Aleppo city. Three civilians and a serviceman of the Syrian Arab Republic were killed.
