Russian-Japanese consultations at deputy foreign minister level took place in Moscow on May 11.

The focus of the meeting was on issues related to further deepening the political dialogue, building up trade and economic cooperation, promoting joint actions in international affairs, and expanding cultural and other exchanges during preparations for the visit of Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe to Russia and the start of the cross years of Russia in Japan and Japan in Russia in late May.

The officials also exchanged views on a number of pressing international and regional issues, including the situation in the Asia-Pacific Region, in particular, on the Korean Peninsula, and ways of countering new challenges and threats.

They agreed to continue regular contacts at the level of supervising deputy foreign ministers of the two countries, with the dates of the next round to be agreed through diplomatic channels.
