On May 9, to mark the 73rd Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in New Delhi hosted the premiere show of the movie “Sobibor” by Konstantin Khabensky with the support of the Russian Embassy in India and Rossotrudnichestvo (Federal Agency for the CIS Affairs, Russian Compatriots Living abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation).

The show saw the presence of the officials of the Russian diplomatic mission, representatives of the Indian MEA and other government institutions, Indian public figures and politicians, activists of friendship societies, representatives of the media and diplomatic corps (including the ambassadors and diplomats of Azerbaijan, China, Egypt, France, Kazakhstan, Syria, Turkey, the UK and the US), as well as Indian students learning the Russian language and Russian compatriots living in India.

During the official part of the evening Head of the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo, Director of the RCSC Fyodor A. Rozovsky highlighted the fact that a full house indicates that Russia has many true friends in India. He shared with the audience the story of the movie production, based on the heroic deed of Soviet officer Alexander Pechersky.

Ambassador of Russia to India H.E. Mr Nikolay R. Kudashev emphasized that the premiere show of the movie was on May 9 – the Victory Day. “This movie is a tribute to the memory of our fathers and grandfathers who left us great legacy: the Victory Day and peaceful skies above. The people who made a brave resolve to start an uprising in Sobibor, dared to perform this heroic deed, despite their different beliefs and national origins. However, the hatred towards fascism, violence and the trampling of basic moral norms united them. By attempt of liberation, they took a step into immortality”, said the Ambassador.
