Art exhibition “Temples of Spirit: Russia and India” in New Delhi

On May 8, the art exhibition “Temples of Spirit: Russia and India” opened at the India International Centre in New Delhi with the support of the Russian Embassy in India, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, the International Roerich Memorial Trust and Saint-Petersburg Centre of Humanitarian Programs.

Director General of the National Gallery of Modern Art Adwaita Gadanayak, Director of the India International Centre Naresh Verma, Russian Ambassador to India H.E. Mr Nikolay R.Kudashev, Director of the Saint-Petersburg Centre of Humanitarian Programs Vitaly V.Vasilyev, Indian politicians and public figures, activists of Indo-Russian Friendship Societies, cultural figures, representatives of the diplomatic corps and Russian compatriots took part in the solemn inauguration ceremony. 

The exhibition displays the works of 15 Russian and Indian artists created at the open-air art camp “Art Expedition-2018. The Himalayas”. In addition to the landscapes painted at the Roerich Estate from April 12 to May 2, 2018, the guests could see the artworks created within the framework of the international project “Russian Atlantis”. 

Russian Ambassador to India H.E. Mr Nikolay R.Kudashev delivered a greeting speech to the guests highlighting the great importance of such events for developing cultural ties between the two countries. According to him, the exhibited paintings represent a common feature, which unites the nations of Russia and India: “the strength of spirit and faith in its unlimited capabilities”. 

According to the head of the open-air project Vitaly V.Vasilyev, the exhibition consists of 57 paintings, which symbolize the spiritual unity of Russia and India and demonstrate that “first of all, the temple is in the heart of a person”. 

The exhibition received coverage in Russian and Indian electronic media.
