On March 13, the Russian Embassy in India held a meeting with the participants of a motor rally devoted to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and India. The route of the “India-Russia Friendship Motor Rally” organized by Kalinga Motors Sports Club, supported by the Government of India and the Russian Embassy in New Delhi, included commemorative places and the premises of economic projects symbolizing important milestones in the history of developing the bilateral cooperation. Having covered the distance of 9,000 kilometers, the automobilists from various regions of Russia and India visited Bhilai, Ranchi, Bokaro, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Chennai, Neyveli, Kudankulam, Revdanda, Jamnagar, Rishikesh, Tehri and other cities, where industrial enterprises, nuclear and electric power plants built with assistance of Soviet and Russian specialists function successfully. Participants have completed the first “Indian” leg of the rally in New Delhi.

General Secretary of Kalinga Motor Sports Club R.C. Mahapatra shared his positive impressions of the journey with the guests and informed that all the participants were looking forward to the second part of the route: from Iran to Russia through the International North South Transport Corridor.

Joint Secretary (ERS) of the Ministry of External Affairs G V Srinivas noted that the idea to have a rally had been included in the Roadmap of the events devoted to the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries and had been approved during the meeting of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the bilateral summit in Goa in 2016.

Russian Ambassador to India H.E. Mr Nikolay R. Kudashev thanked the participants of the rally and emphasized the high level of self-sufficiency during the organization of the event. According to him, such public initiatives demonstrate that the feelings of friendship and mutual sympathy between Russia and India are of natural character and confirm that “the roots of our cooperation are at the hearts of Russian and Indian people”.
