Russian Diplomat’s day in New Delhi

On February 9, the Russian Embassy in New Delhi hosted a solemn function on the occasion of the Diplomats’ Day. Representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Ambassadors of the CIS and BRICS countries, veterans of Indian diplomatic service, staff members of the Russian diplomatic mission took part in the event. President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) V.P.Sahasrabuddhe, a world famous Bollywood actress and MP Ms Hema Malini were guests of honour. 

All those present listened to the congratulatory address by Russian Foreign Minister S.V.Lavrov. The ceremony of awarding former Indian Foreign Secretary and Indian Ambassador to Russia K.Raghunath with a plate “For contribution into international cooperation” of Russian Foreign Ministry attached particular importance to the celebration. Furthermore, two of the Russian diplomats were presented with the certificates for being awarded a higher diplomatic rank – the best gift for the professional holiday.

The function saw a release of the book “Travelers from Imperial Russia to India” by late Director of the Centre for Russian and Central Asian Studies and the Eurasian Foundation of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Professor A.Mohanty. The presentation of the book devoted to the first Russian explorers of India, paid a tribute to the late distinguished Indian scholar scientist, who had made an outstanding contribution to the development of Indo-Russian studies. 

Russian Ambassador to India H.E. Mr Nikolay R. Kudashev delivered a welcome speech, emphasizing the role of the diplomatic service in the modern world and wishing the staff of the Russian Embassy success in their professional activities.
