CELEBRATION OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS ANNIVERSARY

On April 13, New Delhi saw a large-scale celebration of the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and India.

The recently built Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra housed a colourful concert organized under the auspices of MEA, the ICCR and the Embassy of Russia in India, with participation of Russian and Indian artists, university students, dancers from the School of Russian Classical Ballet as well as a junior dance group from the Russian Embassy School. The event revolved around the centuries-old friendship and unfailing mutual interest towards cultural heritage and traditions of two countries. Ballet and yoga fusion as well as a classical Indian kathak dance to the music by Michail Glinka bore vivid evidence of this affinity. The audience warmly welcomed with a round of applause popular Russian songs sung by Indian students and the Bollywood dance “Dhoom Taana” performed by young dancers from Russia.

In the framework of the concert, Mr Anatoly Kargapolov, Russian Chargé d'Affaires a.i., announced the winner of the Anniversary Logo Contest organized by the Embassy.

The concert was followed by a reception at the Embassy featuring a chamber performance by the Bolshoi Theatre soloist Sergey Plyusnin and the international piano contest laureate Alexey Starikov. The audience was treated with classical programme, including opera arias, romances and lyric musical compositions by Russian and European composers. The CIS Ambassadors, diplomats, representatives of New Delhi political, diplomatic, scientific, and cultural elite, who graced the occasion, gave the artists a standing ovation.
