The Week of MU Lermontov, dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of the great Russian poet was opened on October 30, 2014 at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in New Delhi (RCSC).
The event was organized by the representative office of the Rossotrudnichestvo in India together with the literary society "Parichay Sahitya Parishad".
Lectures and video presentations "M. Lermontov - poetry and peace" were presented by teachers of the Institute of Russian Language of the RCSC. The life and literary career of Lermontov were recalled at the meeting. The part-time teacher of Russian at the University of Delhi Anju Mehta stressed: "The early death of Mikhail Lermontov was a great loss for the whole world of literature",
The Chief Consultant of RCSC Mr. Arseny Starkov, earlier welcoming the guests, said: "The uniqueness of the creativity of MU Lermontov, as the poet of the Golden Age, is that it marked the flowering of Russian culture and greatly influenced the process of the formation of a new phase of the national literature. He also noted the special importance of these literary evenings for Indian students learning Russian language, and invited all the participants in the evening to get acquainted with thematic photo exhibition "M. Lermontov and the characters in his literary works ", prepared with the support of the Institute of Russian Literature (Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The evening ended with a competition for the best portrait of Mikhail Lermontov. Young Indian artists - members of the Association of Indian Photographers and Artists-- had prepared a portrait each, and brought them to the RCSC to participate in the quiz. Many of those present were surprised to learn that MU Lermontov was also a great artist. All participants were awarded with souvenirs.
The Director of the Institute of Russian Language RCSC Ms. Tatiana Shipilova conducted a small tour of the photo exhibition and the exhibition of portraits of M. Lermontov. Special emphasis was made on the spot of the poet - St. Petersburg, Moscow, Stavropol, Pyatigorsk, Tiflis, Taman, as well as the Caucasus, which played a significant role in the life of the poet.
In the course of the week, as part of the anniversary of MJ Lermontov in the library and the Institute of Russian Language, RCSC, there will be a series of events –viz:, a memorable evening, open Russian lessons, video screenings, poetry quizzes, contests and other poems.
