Serguei Markarov’s piano recital overwhelms Delhi audience

A brilliant piano recital by the eminent Russian pianist Serguei Markarov, UNESCO Artist for Peace, organised at the India International Centre,

in collaboration with the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India and the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in New Delhi on October 31, 2014, overwhelmed the Delhi audience.

H. E. Mr. Alexander M. Kadakin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to India, graced the occasion. Mr. Sergei Karmalito, Senior Counsellor, Embassy of the Russian Federation in India, and Mr. Fedor Rozovskiy, Director, Russian Centre of Science and Culture, were present to attend the recital.

The hall of the India International Centre was packed to its capacity and the audience, the elite cross-section of the Delhi gathering, gave standing ovation to the remarkable performance that emerged through the magic touch of Serguei Markarov, the outstanding Russian pianist, Professor at I’Ecole Normale de Musique UNESCO Artist for Peace, Knight of the National Order of Merit (France) and winner of the Order of Friendship (Russia).

The concert performed by Serguei Markarov comprised Haydn Sonata No. 58 C-dur Hob XVI, 48, Andante con espressione Rondo (Presto); Beethoven Sonata No. 12 opus 26 As-dur, Allegro con variazioni, Scherzo (Allegro molto), Marceia funebre sulla morte d” un Eroe, Allegro;   Brahms Fantasien opus 116, No. 1, Capriccio d-moll, No. 2 Intermezzo a-moll, No. 3 Capriccio g-moll; Tehaikovsky “The Seasons”, December “Christmas”. February “Carnival”; Rachmaninov, Prelude opus 3 No. 2 cis-moll, Italian Polka.

Serguei Markarov has majored in piano in the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory os St. Petersburg and the Post Graduate studies in the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow. In 1982, he was a Laureate of the Alessandro Casagrande International Piano Competition in Italy. Since 1993, he has been performing in Europe’s most prestigious concert halls and gives numerous master classes. His nomination as UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2002 came in recognition of his support for INESCO programmes and activities promoting peace and tolerance and for this contribution to dialogue between cultures through classical music.
