The first Unit of Kudankulam NPP was successfully synchronized to the grid on October 22, 2013 at 02.45 am. During this stage of synchronization the generation level was increased up to 160 MWt in strict line with the commissioning programme.
In accordance with the technological requirements upon completion of the necessary works at the said minimal capacity level the Unit was stopped for further inspection of the equipment and systems conditions. After that the Unit will be gradually synchronized with the grid at the higher capacity levels of 50%, 75%, 70%. At every capacity level the scheduled tests will be conducted including load reduction. Upon completion of the required tests at each capacity level the Unit will be stopped to carry out inspection of its condition and further the capacity will be increased to the subsequent higher level. Synchronization at 100% of capacity will be done upon detailed check up of the efficiency of all Unit systems and equipment.
All works at the Unit are strictly monitored by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board.
