New Delhi celebrates Day of Russia

On June 12, 2013, on the occasion of Russia’s National Day, the Russian Embassy in New Delhi hosted a lavish reception. The White Hall saw a gathering of more than thousand guests –

influential Indian politicians and public figures, businessmen and officials, cultural and scientific celebrities, activists of Russian-Indian friendship societies, journalists and representatives of Russian companies.

The celebration was attended by numerous diplomats accredited in the Indian capital. Among them Ambassador of Armenia, H.E. Mr Ara Hakobyan, Ambassador of Belorussia, H.E. Mr Vitali Prima, Ambassador of Kazakhstan, H.E. Mr Doulat Kuanyshev, Ambassador of Lithuania, H.E.Mr Laimonas Talas-Kelpsa, Ambassador of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr Saidbeg Saidov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan, H.E. Mr Parakhat Durdyev, Ambassador of Ukraine, H.E. Alexander Shevchenko, Ambassador of USA, H.E. Ms Nancy Powell, Minister-Counsellor of the Kirgiz Embassy Mr Evgeny Kablukov.

H.E. Mr Tejender Khanna, Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, was the Chief Guest. National anthems of Russia and India were played at the reception.

In accordance with the Decree of the President Vladimir Putin the Ambassador of Russia to India, H.E. Mr Alexander Kadakin, decorated five citizens of India with the Russian state awards.

Mr Dalbir Singh, Head of the Department of Public Relation, Communication and Information (All India Congress Committee), prominent politician and public figure, received the Order of Friendship – the highest award bestowed by Russia upon foreign citizens, for his outstanding contribution to strengthening friendly relations and promoting people’s diplomacy between India and Russia.

Mrs Purnima Anand, President of the Indo-Russian Youth Clubs Federation, was decorated with the Pushkin Medal for her tireless long standing efforts to strengthen the worthy cause of

Russian-Indian cooperation and development of a friendly dialogue between Russian and Indian youth.

Dr Nivedita Das Kundu, Assistant Director (Research) Indian Council for Social Science Research, leading scholar in the geopolitical and socio-political field, received the Pushkin Medal for her valuable contribution to intensification of Russian-Indian dialogue and mutual understanding.

Mr Vijai Kalantri, President of the All India Association of Industries, Co-founder of the Russian-Indian Trade House in Mumbai, was decorated with the Pushkin Medal for his tireless efforts to promote Russian-Indian friendly relations, business and cultural contacts.

Dr. Nair Kumar Pillai Govindan, Director of the Russian Language Institute at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Trivandrum, received the Pushkin Medal for his outstanding contribution towards popularization of Russian language, literature and culture in India.

Ambassador A.M.Kadakin introduced to the gathering Mr. Victor Albuquerque who has been appointed the honorary consul of the Russian Federation in the state of Goa.

Remarkable performance of the famous Jazz band from Moscow -Ladies in Jazz - the winner of many international contests, created an unforgettable festive atmosphere of the celebration. The concert tour of the group was organized by the Russian Embassy, the representation of Rossotrudnichestvo in New Delhi and was sponsored by the Government of Moscow and Rostechnologii Corporation.

Guests were offered drinks and traditional dishes of Russian cuisine. The reception was brightened in colors with festive fireworks and fantastic illumination of the Embassy’s garden and lawns.
