Leading chess-players of Kerala at tournaments of RCSC in Trivandrum

More than 60 chess-players participated in the Rapid Chess Tournament and Classical Chess Tournament, organized at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in Trivandum on July 7-8 in honour of Grand Master Viswanathan Anand.

At a tournament in Moscow on May 30, 2012 Mr. Anand, who started his chess career at the RCSC in Chennai, has confirmed his title of the World Champion. This has inspired chess-lovers all-over India to hold numerous chess competitions across the country, including chess-clubs of the RCSCs.

Ten national players and eight players of FIDE rating took part in Kerala tournaments.

Mr. Anilkumar won the Rapid Chess Tournament. He played with 40 players.

Mr. Karthik Mohan of the ANAND Chess Academy won the tournament for below 20-age group. Champions of Kerala Mr. S.U.Sabarinath and Mr. S.A.Joseph finished the game with draw.

Mayor of Trivandrum Adv. Chandrika inaugurated the tournament. This was the second time in two weeks that the Mayor visited the RCSC to participate in the inauguration of the Chess Tournament. Mr.Rajendran Achari, Secretary, Trivandrum District Chess Association, presented prizes to the winners.
