The National Day of Russia, jointly organized by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) and the International Federation of Indo-Russian Youth Clubs, was held at 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, on June 8, 2012.

The programme comprised the inauguration of a Photo Exhibition “Russia & India: Unity in Diversity” by Evgeniya Karmalito and a Concert by Indian artists “Congratulations, RUSSIA”.

The Photo Exhibition, titled “India and Russia: Unity in Diversity” displayed photographs taken by Mrs. Evgeniya Karmalito, a professional journalist, in two cities of Russia and India—Suzdal and Amber—which have much in common. Major Dalbir Singh, Secretary, All-Indian Congress Committee, Dr. Ramadhikari Kumar, President, INDAPRYAL, Mr. Sergei Karmalito, Senior Counsellor, Embassy of the Russian Federation in India,  and Mr. Fyodor A. Rozovskiy, Director, RCSC, participated in the Inaugural Ceremony of the Photo Exhibition.

In the words of Ms. Evgeniya Karmalito, the Exhibition is an attempt to show a few striking similarities in the elements of local architecture as well as the whole picturesque environment and unique atmosphere that re so characteristic to Suzdal and Amber. “It somehow helps to understand the inner, spiritual causes of the well-known phenomenon and to find the reasons why Russia and her sister, great India, have been gravitating towards each other since time immemorial” she said. Ms. Evgenia Karmalito also mentioned that in a sense, the Exhibition opened the magical essence of the “Maharishi” Nikholas Roerich, the exalted Russian artist and philosopher, who once wrote: “India’s heart is reaching for the infinite Russia. The great Indian magnet is attracting Russian hearts”.

An important feature of the Concert was the performance of the Folk Dances of India by the artists of the Song and Dance Division of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, under the guidance of Dr. Akash Deep, Manager. The students of JIMS, TERII, IIM, LBIIHM and Zenith Group presented impressive items such as Modern Fusion Dances, Indian and Western Dances and Contemporary Art performances on the occasion to the immense delight of the audience.

The artists were felicitated by Dr. R. Kumar, Major Dalbir Singh, Mr. Sergei Karmalito and Mr. Fydor Rozovskiy.
