ESTEEMED MR KRISHNA,

THE YEAR OF THE 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF ESTABLISHING DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN OUR TWO COUNTRIES ALSO MARKS ANOTHER MEMORABLE EVENT – THE SEMI-CENTENNIAL JUBILEE OF THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION IN CHENNAI.

ITS OPENING IN 1962 WAS NECESSITATED BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NUMBER OF LARGE INDUSTRIAL OBJECTS IN SOUTH INDIA WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF OUR SPECIALISTS. TODAY THE CONSULATE GENERAL’S ACTIVITIES ARE ALSO INSEPARABLY LINKED WITH IMPLEMENTATION OF IMPORTANT PROJECTS OF RUSSIAN-INDIAN COOPERATION – ERECTION OF THE FIRST AND SECOND UNITS OF NPP KUDANKULAM, KAMAZ HEAVY TRUCKS MANUFACTURING PLANT IN HOSUR, METRO CONSTRUCTION IN CHENNAI WITH 7 UNDERGROUND STATIONS AND THE TUNNEL COMMISSIONED FROM THE “METROSTROI” COMPANY.

MULTIFACETED AND SUBSTANTIVE CULTURAL EXCHANGES TRADITIONALLY TAKE PLACE WITH THE SOUTH INDIAN STATES. LAST FEBRUARY ON BEHALF OF DMITRY MEDVEDEV, PRESIDENT OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION, ALEXANDER KADAKIN, AMBASSADOR OF RUSSIA TO INDIA, PRESENTED THE ORDER OF FRIENDSHIP TO A TAMIL CLASSIC, D.JAYAKANTHAN, THE LONG-STANDING PRESIDENT OF THE INDIAN-RUSSIAN CULTURE AND FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY.

MR MINISTER, RUSSIA VALUES YOUR PERSONAL CONTRIBUTION TO PRESERVING THE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE ROERICH FAMILY AND TO TAKING THE DECISION ON TURNING THEIR TATAGUNI ESTATE INTO A NATIONAL MUSEUM.

I AM CONVINCED THAT MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL RUSSIAN-INDIAN ECONOMIC AND TRADE TIES AS WELL AS MUTUALLY ENRICHING HUMANITARIAN EXCHANGES WILL THRIVE FURTHER FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR COUNTRIES AND NATIONS. THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION IN CHENNAI IS READY TO MAKE ITS WEIGHTY CONTRIBUTION TO STRENGTHENING COOPERATION BETWEEN OUR COUNTRIES.

SERGEY LAVROV
