The Ambassador of Russia to India, Mr Alexander Kadakin, ahead of The National Day of Russia decorated Russian and Indian personalities with state awardes including the first Indian cosmonaut and Executive Director of the International Roerich Memorial Trust. The awards giving ceremony took place at the reception in the Embassy of the Russian Federation dedicated to the National Day of Russia.
Alena Adamkova, the Executive Director of the International Roerich Memorial Trust, citizen of the Slovak Republic, has been decorated with the Order of Friendship for a substantial contribution to developing and strengthening of scientific and cultural ties between Russia and India. She has been administrating the memorial complex of the Roerichs in the serene Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh state over ten years.
Mr Rakesh Sharma, First Indian Cosmonaut, holder of Ashok Chakra, Order of Lenin and the Medal of the Gold Star of the Hero of the USSR, has been decorated with the Medal “For merits in the Exploration of Space” for its great contribution to the development of cooperation in manned space flight. As a crewmember of the spacecraft “Soyuz T-11” he made his flight in outer space on April 3, 1984. On the board of the orbital platform “Salut–7” he carried out some scientific tests including an application of yoga for the maintenance of cosmonauts’ health.
Professor Arun Mohanty of the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi has been decorated with the Pushkin Medal for a substantial contribution to developing and strengthening of scientific and cultural ties between Russia and India. Prof Mohanty as the Director of the Eurasia Foundation carries out modern history of Russia and post-Soviet space research.
Mr Feodor A. Rozovsky, Director of the Center of the Science and Culture of Russia, has been awarded with the Medal of “The Order for merits before the Motherland”, Second Class. Also Mr Ratish Nair, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Trivandrum and Director of the Russian Center of Science and Culture has been decorated with the “Medal of 200 years of Russian consular service” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
During the reception the virtuoso ensemble “Maestro” from St Petersburg has performed the programme. Also “Rosoboronexport” has put on the photo exhibition at the foyer of the Embassy where it displayed models of state-of-the-art military hardware.
