
50th Anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s space flight marked at Nehru Planetarium The 50th Anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s Flight into Outer Space was marked at a function jointly organized by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) and Nehru Planetarium in the framework of the International Education Programme “Cosmic Odyssey” on April 8.
The function, held at the Planetarium comprised a lecture-cum-presentation, screening of a documentary film “Yuri Gagarin. Chosen by the Stars” and a quiz programme on “Space Milestones” meant for school children. Around 60 students from about four Delhi schools, along with their teachers, participated in the function. The participating schools were Bal Bharati Public School, Rajendra Nagar, SLS--DAV Public School, Mausam Vihar, DPS International School, Saket, and Excelsior American School, Gurgaon. Dr. N. Rathnasree, Director, Nehru planetarium, Mr. Sergey Isaev, Head of Science and Technology, RCSC, and Ms. Yelena S. Shtapkina, Deputy Director (Culture & Information), RCSC, jointly organized the presentation and the quiz programme. The students responded well in the programme. They took keen interest and showed their skill in the subject, namely Yuri Gagarin and space science. All participating school students were presented with Russian souvenirs.
