H.E. mr Nikolay Kudashev in roerichs’ himalayan estate events

On October 20-22, 2018 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of India H.E. Mr Nikolay R. Kudashev visited the Kullu Valley (Himachal Pradesh), where he participated in the festive events dedicated to the 114th Birth Anniversary of prominent painter and thinker Svetoslav Roerich, founder of the International Roerich Memorial Trust. During his trip, the Head of Mission met with representatives of the Kullu District Administration, curators and volunteers of the memorial museum-complex in the Roerichs' Estate.

On October 21, the celebration saw the unveiling of Svetoslav Roerich’s “Naggar. Landscape” painting restored by Ms Ilmira Faridonova, Mikhail Nesterov Bashkir State Art Museum research fellow. H.E. Mr Nikolay Kudashev in his welcome address noted that the Roerichs’ legacy keeps bringing Russian and Indian nations closer and stands out as one of the brightest components of the common cultural heritage.

The festivities culminated in the performances at the Green Theatre by Helena Roerich Academy of Arts alumni and young artists of the “Otrada” folklore ensemble (Chita), participants of the 9th Himalayan expedition organized by the “Dostoyanie” Interregional Public Organization in cooperation with the Russian Embassy and the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in New Delhi. The audience admired inspiring performance of the Russian children who brought on stage folk dances from across Russia and world over. On October 19, “Otrada” performed at the International Kullu Dussehra Festival, which saw the presence of several thousand Indians.

The festive program also included the opening of the children’s paintings exhibition titled “From Beats of Time to Treasures of Space” featuring Himalayan landscapes drawn by the participants of the previous expeditions by “Dostoyanie”.

The RCSC representatives gifted Russian language manuals for local schools while the painters from Leningrad region, Russia held master classes for their students.

The festive events in the Himalayas were covered by Russian and Indian news agencies.
