The Inauguration Ceremony of International BRICSmath-2018 competition

On July 25, an online competition in mathematics for the primary school students of the BRICS member states (BRICSMath) was inaugurated at St. Xavier's High School in Gurugram. The initiative was launched by the Russian education platform and supported by the Embassy of Russia in India and the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in New Delhi.

Mr Stanley Anthony, the school principal, Ms Ksenia Maretina and 
Ms Victoria Tesunova, BRICSMath project coordinators, Ms Tatiana Perova, Head of the Russian Language Teachers’ Training Centre of the RCSC, and diplomats from China, Russia and South Africa took part in the inauguration ceremony dedicated to the tenth BRICS summit in Johannesburg.

Addressing the gathering, Ms Tatiana Perova emphasized the importance of joint educational projects to strengthen Indo-Russian cultural ties. Second Secretary of the Russian Embassy in India Alexei Illyuviev highlighted that the purpose of BRICSmath is to promote mathematics as a school subject, develop logical thinking of children and establish contacts among the students of the BRICS member states.

Ms Ksenia Maretina informed that the online competition, which consists of two parts (the trial and main rounds), will last from July 25 to September 30, 2018 in all the BRICS member states. More than 1 million Indian students are expected to participate in the project.
