Briefing by Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria (May 8, 2018)

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides continues working on peaceful settlement of the conflict and stabilizing humanitarian situation in the Syrian Arab Republic.

Despite the ceasefire regime being established throughout Syria, the Russian-Turkish-Iranian Joint Coordination Centre has registered several cases of ceasefire violation by illegal armed formations in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Damascus and Daraa.

Situation in the Eastern Ghouta remains stable. Peaceful life is being recovered in the region.

Living houses are being cleared up from mines and ammo in the city of Douma. Streets are being cleared from rubbles by Russian special equipment; housing and utilities infrastructure is being restored. Over the last 24 hours, 15 houses and their territories have been cleared up. In total, 38 explosive devices have been defused.

Due to comprehensive support 64,489 citizens of the Eastern Ghouta have returned to their homes from camps for refugees and temporary displaced persons.

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation jointly with military police is completing withdrawal of militants with their families observing all security measures from east Yarmouk, a former Palestinian refugee camp via the Beit Sahm humanitarian corridor.

Over the last 24 hours, 1,211 militants with their families have passed through the corridor. They left the area by buses escorted by the security service cars, SARC ambulances, and reached Qalaat al-Mudiq, the Idlib de-escalation zone.

In total, 7,393 militants with their families left Yalda, Babbila, Sidi Mikdat, and Beit Sahm since May 3.

The Russian side continues working on further de-escalation of situation in other regions of Syria as well. Within the earlier reached agreements, it is the second day as the Centre for Reconciliation has been departing militants of illegal armed formation with their families from the Homs de-escalation zone.

For this purpose, a humanitarian corridor has been opened with a check point near al-Rastan. Over the past day, 3,183 people have left the area for north Aleppo province.

Militants have surrendered three armored vehicles and 12 pieces of armaments and ammo under the control of the Russian Centre for Reconciliation.

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation is above all focused on stabilizing the humanitarian situation, providing medical assistance to the people in need and meeting the priority needs of citizens.

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation has carried out a humanitarian action in the city of al-Qadisiyah, Aleppo province. People received more than a ton of fresh-baked bread.

Russian military medics provided medical assistance to 48 Syrians, including 15 children.

The reconstruction of the destroyed social infrastructure and the establishment of peaceful life in the Syrian provinces enable people to return back to their former homes.

Over the past day, 212 people have returned to Homs province, and 133 – to the Eastern Ghouta.

The Russian Centre is registering the number of citizens leaving Tell Rifaat de-escalation zone for Membij, Aleppo province. Over the last 24 hours, 597 people with personal properties have left the area.
