Briefing by Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria (June 9, 2018)

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides continues working on peaceful settlement of the conflict and stabilization of humanitarian situation in the Syrian Arab Republic.

Despite the ceasefire regime being established throughout the country, illegal armed formations breach ceasefire regime in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia and Daraa.

Situation in Damascus and its suburbs is being stabilized; people are returning to peaceful life.

Representatives of the Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides monitored reconstruction of infrastructure in Saqba. Trade is restored, 10 pharmacies are open, medical support is established. Electric power system has been reconstructed; street light system has been installed in the city. Reconstruction of water supply and sewerage system are underway. Local authorities jointly with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent organize delivery of baby foods and drinking water.

Engineering units of the Syrian Army trained by Russian specialists continue mine clearance operation in the Eastern Ghouta. In Douma, the Syrian engineers have checked 17 buildings to defuse three mines, seven projectiles and 21 improvised explosive devices.

Measures are being taken by Syrian government jointly with the Russian side to stabilize post-conflict situation in the provinces of Hama and Homs.

In the area of Talbiseh – al-Rastan of the M5 international highway, the road services of Homs are working to overhaul guardrail.

Russian military police organizes observation posts in Kharet-Tukman, Talbiseh and Al-Rastan to prevent provocations and other illegal actions.

The Russian Centre carried out charitable actions in the Asada Mosque and the Taufin Alabi School of Aleppo to improve the humanitarian situation. At the end of the Ramadan fasting day, the Russian servicemen deployed field kitchens to provide people with hot meals and more than a ton of bread.

The Russian Centre carried out humanitarian action in Babilla, the southern district of Damascus. People received 450 food sets, medical supplies and the bare necessities. Total weight has reached two tons.

Russian military medics have provided medical assistance to more than 105 people, including 55 children.

Recovering of social infrastructure and establishment of peaceful life enables people to return back to their homes.

Over the past day, 191 people have returned to Homs province, and 123 people – to the Eastern Ghouta.

Measures taken by Russia, Turkey and Iran stabilize situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone; civilians return back to their homes in Aleppo province. Over the past day, 203 people with private properties have passed through the Tal-Sultan – Abu al-Duhur humanitarian corridor. Since March 4, in total 15,744 people and 3,314 pieces of equipment have passed through the humanitarian corridor.
